In April 2024 TINYisPOWERFUL with Yo Art and filmmaker/multi-media artist Daniel Green launched the second iteration of a film mini lesson course in collaboration with middle school students at James Simons Montessori school (a public school located in downtown Charleston, SC). This is a continuation of a project launched in Fall 2023 which resulted in the short film, “Hood Ball.”

Objectives: 

– Learn how films are made and roles

– Collaborate with peers and peer instructors on a creative multimedia film project

– Develop empathy and share perspectives of others through method acting

This semester, 11 students are in the course (including 3 who were also part of the fall 2023 course). Students started by identifying their favorite films, desired filmmaking roles and skills they are already developing (including edit and illustrating).

We are embarking on a journey to create a Horror/Comedy with inspiration from the students’ collective top choice film inspirations, “Friday,” “Scream,” and “Boyz in the Hood.”
