Stop

and refocus

Recently, here in Charleston, two tiny businesses had a public feud (online) that began over different opinions about the present administration. One business owner, a white woman, and the other a woman of color. What could have been an opportunity for civil debate instead became at the least a solid example of intimidation and cyber bullying and at most overt expressions of racism and supremacist attitudes.

“I’m smarter than you, more successful than you, and will always be several steps ahead of you,”  “You’re a nobody,” “I don’t think you have the network nor the following to support your bs,” “Good f****** luck doing business in CHS again,” “You’ll learn.”

If you have never been discriminated against, bullied or talked down to you might not be able to understand how comments like these reverberate.
