TINY IS SUSTAINABLE

There is more behind the word ‘economic’ than Economics!

To isolate the study of HOW societies exchange goods and services from that of WHY,  WHERE or WHEN has brought us to the one-way / dead-end / no parking-no standing of consumerism.

Can’t “Economy” refer to any process involving exchanges of any sort, not only monetary transactions? In which case ‘Economy” also refers to issues of reciprocity, of  transparency, clarity, candor, decency, restraint, respect …

Isn’t there an Economy of nature, of speech, of knowledge? Isn’t there an Economy everywhere there is an exchange? With ways, means, procedures, conditions, legalities?

An Economy of nature: is it possible that, precisely, because ‘Economy” refers mostly to raw commerce, our view of Nature is still that of predators, not symbiotic allies? …

An Economy of speech: the accessibility of information? The scrupulousness of political debate? The price of free speech? The protection of sources? …

An Economy of knowledge: how do discoveries, intellectual property, scholarship, circulate? How accessible are they? To all or to a few? …

Who is familiar with the phrase: the economy of salvation? Doesn’t it delineate the path to Heaven, the dos and don’ts, devine justice? …

By contract with ArtPlace America, connECKtedTOO’s purpose is economic development.

It is precisely because we will not erase the human side of development in economic development that the Charleston Rhizome Collective has chosen Art and Culture in/with Community to secure an Economy other than one of profit or loss, one with many purposes!
